Works Well With

The ideal blend of priming and protection. Creates a smooth, even surface for flawless makeup application while helping to minimize the look of pores, fine lines, and imperfections. Oil-free.

Protective formula creates a flattering "buffer" for your skin, with UVA/UVB broad spectrum sunscreen and an antioxidant vitamin complex that helps protect skin against harmful, aging effects of the environment. Feels weightless on skin. Non-chalky.

Prepares for and perfects makeup application

Like all Laura Mercier™ Primers, it creates a perfectly smooth, even surface for applying foundation. It helps makeup glide on easily and last longer, so your look stays fresh and colour-true for hours.

Why Laura's primers are different

Unlike traditional primers that are overloaded with silicone smoothers, Laura Mercier™ Primers are water-based and include a minimal concentration of the lightest silicones. That's why they feel fresh and lightweight, and why they work as well as they do.

Natural Finish

Foundation Primer - Protect SPF 30/PA+++ gives skin a natural finish, with invisible coverage and broad spectrum UV protection. Ideal for all skin types.

I'm not sure how I ever lived without it!

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

When I wear make-up I like a simple, clean look. I really like this primer. I learned about it 8 months ago. It goes on lightly and adds just that extra bit of moisture my skin needs before applying the tinted moisturizer. I also love the fact it has SPF protection. I wear this twice a week on average, so I estimate a tube would last me 3-4 months if I applied it daily. I just ordered my second tube and I still have a bit left from my initial order.

YAY! High SPF and no heavy feeling!

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

It it VERY difficult to find a high SPF product without Octisalate, which I seem to have a sensitivity to. I've tried a number of mineral moisturizing sunscreens, but they either feel heavy or aren't moisturizing enough in the winter. This primer is perfect - it leaves skin with a soft glow, has a high SPF and is very lightweight. So far I haven't felt like I needed to add any other moisturizers. And of course it works beautifully under my Tinted Moisturizer. Great product!

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

I am half british living in Rome, from spring on going around town I need protection, but still want to wear makeup. This primer gives great base to makeup (I've tried many..), keeps makeup in place, does not itch.
It works with Italy's strong sun. I would wear it also in the winter as it doesn't feel you're wearing high spf.

Two Steps and Two Products in One

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

I don't leave my home without SPF on! So when LM released a primer with a high SPF and full coverage I was absolutely giddy. I hunted it down and used it immediately! I am relieved that the product does not irritate my skin or cause any redness, unlike my previous non-LM SPF product. It's pretty emollient for my t-zone and reminds me of the moisturizing primer formula. I use the oil-free version of my foundation over it. My makeup wears beautifully and since the primer is SPF 30 I also use it on my neck. Great for travel and convenience to combine these steps! For the New England winter I may add just a little moisturizer.

Brilliant combo

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

In all fairness I need to admit to loving lm sunblock, so when the primer with sunblock came out I was very excited. I took my foundation primer on a test drive to Disney Hong Kong in 100 degrees. It worked beautifully. I went the whole day with no sunburn, no greasy feeling, and no running off my face or into my eyes to sting. It stayed! It worked!
The primer continues to work as the wonderful primer we all know and love, but the added sunblock saves me a step and cash.

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

This primer goes on so easily and the antioxidant indegredients instantly wake my skin and make my complection look more vibrant even on the earliest of mornings. I've noticed that both liquid and powder foundations last much longer when this product is applied first. Even my tinted moisturizer looks better and lasts longer when used with this primer! I would definitely recommend this product because regular use makes my skin look much healthier along with keeping my foundation of choice true to shade and maintaining a healthy finish even in the most humid weather.

Comments about Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++:

This is an outstanding product that smooths the way for any foundation and gives you non-greasy, broad spectrum protection. Perfect anytime, but really great for the hot, humid summer months when you don't want to layer a bunch of stuff on your face. Love it!

  • Q:

Trying to decide which primer to purchase to wear beneath LM's Tinted Moisturizer in the shade Porcelain (I have mature fair skin and am looking for a product that minimizes skin imperfections rather than draws attention to them). I've never tried LM's foundation or primers, so these would be new products for me. I definitely do NOT want a "matte" finish! From reading answers to previous questions, I'm confused on which primer to pair with the Tinted Moisturizer (Porcelain), which I realize already has SPF 20. The Radiance primer says it helps hide skin imperfections/fine lines, etc. The Protect Primer does NOT mention this particular benefit, but of course it has the higher SPF 30, which is nice. Can you please clarify if both primers "mask" flaws/fine lines, or just the Radiance primer so I can make the right choice? Thank you!

I am 53, the primer with spf protection will be much better for you, actually the hydrating is my favorite for dry skin with imperfections. The radiance is far too 'opal or shimmery' for daytime for us ladies of maturity. It shows off lines & pores.

      A:

luv2smile, If you are wanting to minimize skin imperfections we recommend you use Foundation Primer Blemish-Less. Foundation Primer Blemish-Less is an oil free primer that helps improve the appearance of blemishes, control shine breakthrough, and minimize the look of pores. Foundation Primer Blemish-Less has a demi-matte finish. Foundation Primer Radiance and Foundation Primer- Protect will minimize the look of pores, fine lines, and imperfections but, each of these primers give you a different finish. Foundation Primer Radiance gives you a radiant finish. Foundation Primer- Protect gives you a natural finish and the added benefit of broad spectrum UV protection.

  • Q:

    Hi,
I have recently purchased this product at sephora Canada. I was surprised when I noticed that the packaging of that same product did not say SPF 30. I then compared the ingredients and saw that my primer does not have the same ingredients and is missing all but one ingredient of sunscreen. Why is that? Is it because I live in Canada?

There are two types of foundation primer, one with sunscreen and one without. The one with sunscreen is called(foundation primer protect broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen). The original one is the foundation primer. I have used the original foundation primer for many years and just tried the one with sunscreen. I actually like the consistency of the original foundation primer better. It is not as thick.I am also not using the product with sunscreen around my eyes, since I do not want sunscreen to get in my eyes.Hope that this helps.

Is this the right primer for older skin. I am 59 and wonder if it would be to dry. I am currently using the radiant primer which I ordered by accident for which I meant to order the moisture one. So needless to say I'm not sure wihich one to order.

GiGi, To creates a smooth, even surface for flawless makeup application you should pick a primer based on your skincare needs. If your skin is normal to dry and you need a little hydration we recommend the Hydrating Foundation Primer. If you have blemish-prone skin we recommend the oil free Blemish-Less Foundation Primer. If you want more of a luminous radiant glow to your skin we recommend selecting one of the Radiance Foundation Primers. If you are wanting UVA/UVB broad spectrum sunscreen protection we recommend Foundation Primer- Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++.

  • Q:

Is there a "Use By" date on this foundation primer since it contains SPF? Also, once OPENED, how long will the SPF remain effective before its protection expires?

For example, if the package is labeled "Use by June 2018" but the product is opened October 2016, would the OPENED container still have fully working SPF till the expiration date of June 2018?

Does this product sink into wrinkles and make them more prominent, and is it color free once applied? Thank you!
Asked on 10/3/2016 by Luv2Smile from Anchorage, Alaska

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Luv2Smile, Foundation Primer expiration or shelf life is indicated by a small image of a jar with a number next to it: 6m, 12m, 18m, etc. ("m" meaning months). Once opened and the product is exposed to the air, the shelf life is the number in months so noted. Once a product has reached its shelf life the SPF in the product will not be as effective as it normal would be. Foundation Primer is a color free product that will not settle into fine lines and wrinkles. Foundation Primer will minimize the look of pores, fine lines, and imperfections.

  • Q:

I live in Canada. I can't find an expiration date or even a label saying that the foundation primer protect has broad spectrum 30 sun protection. Why? How can I order it to Canada ( I have from the us ) and know when it expires? I am advised to just buy the product without this pertinent information and use it quickly in case it has expired and will not protect me from sun exposure.

How does this product compare to the Radiance Primer? Love the "radiance" part but would prefer a product with built in SPF. Could this product be the answer to both?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Beth, both Foundation Primers prime your skin and create an invisible layer that acts as a buffer to outside elements. They both contain Vitamins A, C and E that are antioxidants that protect the skin from harmful aging effects of the environment. The Radiance Foundation Primer gives your skin a soft radiant finish while minimizing the look of imperfections in the skin. The Foundation Primer Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30 has the added benefits of UVB/UVA protection.
